Galations 5
The structure of Galatians is interesting and important. Paul is defending the message of unmerited grace and freedom found in Jesus against the influence of teachers who desired folks to come under the Jewish law. These teachers believed that to have proper relationship with God, people needed to first follow the measures of the Jewish law. In other words, proper behavior preceded God's acceptance and grace. Paul contends that acceptance by God is not based on our behavior/works but the loving work of God Himself. The book of Galatians reflects this argument. Paul begins by sharing who we are in Jesus first, and only then shares how we might live as a result. This week at Mosaic we look at Galatians 5-6 and consider what Paul is now inviting the Galatians to do in light of their identity in Jesus, and what it means for us. I look forward to discussing all of this with you soon! ~Aaron
