Jesus' Baptism
Reading the gospel accounts of Jesus' life can be a bit confusing for readers 2000+ years later. For us, a biography should capture the LIFE of the person being written about. The gospels don't do that.
Why would you write biographies that start like this:
Matthew - Good info about Jesus' birth and infancy, then nothing until he is 12. Then nothing again until he is 30.
Mark - Doesn't even start the story until Jesus is 30 years old.
Luke - Again, great info about his birth story but we go from Jesus being 8 days old, to Jesus the 12 year old, in one verse.
John - A veiled reference to Jesus' birth, but only start talking about his life when he is 30.
We've talked about some of the other highlights, so this week we will look into Jesus' baptism by John, and in particular why the biographies were written the way they were.
Blessings,
Matt
